Job Coaching Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How much does it cost for a coaching session and what do I get?

A. Each 90-minute coaching session is customized to your needs and costs less than $300.00. You’ll be coached by company principal Laura McCarthy, a recognized industry expert with 20 years experience in the IT field and in recruiting.

Here are some of the topics your session will cover:

  • Resume readiness, does your resume reflect your desired position?
  • What jobs are you qualified for?
  • Specific job search skills including effective pre-interview research, pre-interview preparation, and search strategies.

Q2. If I hire you as a coach will you be able to find me a job?

A. Though we’d love to say we can find anyone a job that isn’t what we do. If we feel that your qualifications match a current opening we will certainly discuss the opportunities. However, our coaching services are designed to help you determine what job or job positions you are most suited for, and how to approach companies you are interested in interviewing with.

Q3. I’m looking to leave the area can you help me locate a job out of town?

A. Our exclusive contacts and connections are all centered in the Metro Washington, D.C. area and we are a recruitment firm not a placement service.

However, we can help you determine what job or job positions you are most suited for, and how to approach companies you are interested in interviewing no matter where that job search takes place.

Q4. If I have follow-up questions after the first coaching session what do I do?

A. We know from experience that a job search takes a lot of time and generates a lot of questions. After your initial coaching session, if you have one or two follow-up questions we encourage you to call or email and we’ll do our best to answer your needs. However, depending on where you are in your search, you may want to schedule a second and even a third session.

Q5. I’m interested in coaching sessions but I’m still employed. I’m concerned that you also work with my employer.

A. We take your confidentiality and that of all of our clients with great seriousness. Our coaching business is separate from our recruitment business. However, after our initial first contact if we feel there is a conflict we will let you know. Rest assured, we would never disclose to your current employer that you are looking for a new job.

Q6. Can you help me evaluate a job offer and negotiate a salary?

The short answer is no. Qualified Search can not be responsible for hiring decisions made by you for a potential company.

However, we will provide you with helpful negotiation tips on how to ask for salary and benefits as well as how to prepare for a counter offer.
